Driving Defense Acquisition Innovation with AFCEA NOVA
ASHBURN, Va., February 21, 2024 – Red Team Consulting (Red Team) proudly supports initiatives that foster collaboration between government and industry to drive innovation in defense acquisition. At AFCEA NOVA’s February Luncheon, industry leaders and government acquisition professionals came together to share insights, discuss challenges, and explore opportunities for accelerating technology adoption in defense procurement.
Red Team’s Blake Harvey had the privilege of moderating a fireside chat on “Driving Innovation in Defense: Transforming Acquisition to Accelerate Technology Adoption” with two distinguished acquisition professionals: Theresa Terry, Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force, Management (SAF/MGM), and Michael Gomes, APG Acquisition, Army CONOPS Chief.
Mr. Harvey kicked off the fireside chat with questions about acquisition trends and policy guidance from the new administration. The discussion also touched on Ms. Terry’s rebrand for category management, Mr. Gomes’ acquisition workforce training, and the use of AI in proposals and evaluations.
Both speakers were transparent and candid with their feedback to industry. They peeled back the curtain and shared stories of how they collect feedback from industry, as well as how disastrous their first debriefs with industry went when they were early in their careers (they resulted in protests). Ms. Terry shared an innovative approach in which the government conducts live RFI/Draft RFP reviews with industry, allowing vendors to engage in real-time discussions and receive immediate updates—sometimes for hours at a time.
“It was pretty amazing to hear of that type of true collaboration between government and industry,” said Mr. Harvey.
